AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design is the design architect and architect of record for the extensive expansion, renovation, and reinvention of this renowned boutique hotel and resort located in Carmel Valley, California. A “complete” design from site planning through to the experiential design of the property’s public and private spaces, this resort architectural renovation project called for adding 16 villa units in a cluster of six one-story and two two-story buildings that overlook the vineyard on the eastern edge of the property, significantly adding to the property’s revenue generating potential. The architecture is designed to complement the existing resort’s vineyard motif with an elegantly modernized take on the classically-Californian Mission style, while adding a new level of luxury with the spacious 1,000 square foot one-bedroom layouts that take advantage of the views of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range across the valley.  Undeniably “homes away from home,” AXIS/GFA’s design for the new guest suites create spaces that are easily mistaken for luxury residences, including spacious vaulted ceilings, dining rooms, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and indulgent yet elegantly secluded outdoor private showers.
