Principal Architects

Cory Creath

Cory Creath, Principal Architect at AXIS/GFA Architecture + DesignCory Creath, AIA, LEED AP, brings more than 30 years commercial architectural design experience to AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design as one of the firm’s founders and Principal Architects. In addition to managing projects, Cory’s responsibilities include overseeing business development and firm administration. Prior to the formation of AXIS in September 2001, and subsequently AXIS/GFA in 2017, Cory was a Studio Director with Gensler’s San Francisco office.

In his spare time, Cory enjoys time in the outdoors with his family – particularly skiing California’s local mountains.

 

 

 

Shawn Alexander

San Francisco-based architect Shawn Alexander, Principal Architect of AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design

Shawn Alexander is a Founding Principal of AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design, and is an award winning licensed Architect with over 30 years of experience in the design industry. Prior to founding AXIS in 2001, and subsequently AXIS/GFA in 2017, Shawn was a Founding Principal of MBH Architects – a nationally ranked architectural firm – where he spearheaded design and directly managed firm operations for over 11 years. Shawn also tenured at Gensler for nine years as a Senior Associate, working on numerous award winning projects.

Shawn brings a tremendous wealth of hospitality experience to AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design, having lead numerous renovation projects with a combined value of well over $100 million.

 

 

Rory Carroll

Rory Carroll, Principal Commercial Architect at AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design

Rory Carroll is a Principal of AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design. An alumnus of The University of California Berkeley, Rory joined AXIS/GFA in 2005 and quickly demonstrated his skills as a cool, calm problem solver with outstanding drawing skills. His responsibilities grew from drafter to job captain to project manager as he demonstrated an ever growing understanding of building systems. Rory was appointed to Associate in 2007, and became a firm partner in 2015. He brings excellent communication skills and excels at coordinating large consultant teams.

Rory is an experienced project manager, routinely earning the praise of the client and the client’s project manager.

 

 

 

Gene Fong

Byung Kang, Senior Associate Commercial Architect at AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design

Gene Fong, Principal Architect at AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design, received a Bachelor of Architecture degree, graduating with high honors, from the School of Architecture and Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.  Later, Gene served as guest lecturer at the same university, mentoring students in the day-to-day practical applications of running an architectural practice.

Prior to the 2017 AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design merger, Gene was the founding Principal Architect at Gene Fong Associates, having operated GFA for over 20 years and establishing it as one of California’s most practiced hotel and multi-family residential architectural design firms.

He is a registered architect in the State of California, the State of Arizona and the State of Hawaii. He is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is an active member of the American Institute of Architects.
